Neighborhood Public Radio

Wanted to invite you to be a part of this cool project I’m helping out with — Neighborhood Public Radio @ The Contemporary Museum, part of the Project 20 exhibition.

It is a low-power broadcast and streaming radio station created by artists, open for anybody to use! It is really fun. I’m “running” the station every-other Sunday through the end of March and would love to help you put on a radio show!

There are two mics, 2 cd players, and a line input where you could plug in your laptop, ipod, record player, tape player, etc.

Anything goes. You could do a music show of random stuff, on a theme, whatever. You could interview people. You could rant, whine, rage, read poetry, make weird noises. More info and the schedule is here: http://www.neighborhoodpublicradio.org/

There are two ways to get on the air:

1. drop in on a Friday or Sunday Noon-5pm when there is open space in the schedule (check the calendar on neighborhoodpublicradio.org

2. Get organized. Plan a show and schedule one (or more) one or two-hour block of time, with me on one of these Sunday dates:

Feb 7 Feb 21 Mar 21

I will show you how to use everything and then the station is yours! (I’ll be there to help, of course.) Ok, so email me with questions and the dates/times you’d like to go on the air. This is super-low key so have some fun with it!

Here’s more info on Neighborhood Public Radio:

Neighborhood Public Radio is an independent, artist-run radio project committed to providing an alternative media platform for artists, activists, musicians, and community members. Setting up temporary booths to stream content onto the internet, or using low-power portable FM transmitters, NPR’s nomadic team–anchored by artists Jon Brumit, Lee Montgomery, and Michael Trigilio broadcasts live shows from galleries, residences, and neighborhood points of interest. To celebrate the character of local neighborhoods, “NPR” constructs programmatic narratives with community members’ voices rather than through journalistic reporting. During Participation Nation, NPR will work with local musicians, visual artists, activists, journalists, and Baltimore–area residents to participate in this grassroots activity whose neighborhood-based programming provides inspiration as an alternative radio broadcast model.
